A brief introduction to get the ball rolling

My name is Ivan, and I’m an online poker player. You can find me under the name “Savageau” on Full Tilt. I’m currently staked by Collin Moshman for 9 man single table sit ‘n go tourneys at the $10-$30 level.
This weblog will serve as both an analysis tool and a record of my frustrations, fluctuations, realizations, and hopefully, compensation, as a low- to mid-stakes sit ‘n go player. Sounds riveting, doesn’t it? In all honesty, if you’re not savvy on poker, there probably won’t be much here for you. I won’t be offended if you leave — as a matter of fact, it will please me. Go on, git!
BUT, if you want to railbird me, discuss strategy, or otherwise “shoot the shit,” then leave me a comment and/or a link to your website/blog/facebook/what-have-you. More to come soon.

Quad Aces — Again! Seriously?

Here’s a quick excerpt
I am on the cusp of being kicked off the month-end tournament at Scoreboard.  For the second week in a row, I didn’t make it to the final table.  (In a previous post, quad aces beat my full house.)
Two bad hands.  One, I had 7-7 and raised to 300.  Dwayne re-raised all  in for an additional 325.  Everyone else folded, I called.  Dwayne flips 6, 10 unsuited.  (I have been known to joke, but that’s not a joke.)
The flop is Q Q J.  I’m still good.  The turn is a J.  I think I’m still good.  The river is a duece.  As I prepare to scoop the chips, Dwayne says “split pot.”  I have no idea what he is talking about.  Then he says no, no I get it all and starts to scoop.  I’m like, what ? and it dawns on me, two pair on the board, we just [...]

Another Winning Night and Thinking About Outs.

It seems I am ever so slowly clawing my way out of this pit of despair, y’all. And I’m feeling a little crappy about going on about fish and all that from the last post. First of all I sound pretty pretentious trying to talk like some seasoned poker vet. I couldn’t be anything less. But also I play just as fishy as the next guy. Well, I guess not as fishy as every next guy, because…
The new bankroll is – $16.20.
Nothing so great was happening at my table – I had a couple of folks with some big stacks for the micro stakes tables and, as I figured, they had a good idea what they were doing. None of that clumsy stealing blinds every hand crap. So they were playing solid poker and I was kind of watching them and trying to [...]

Texas Hold Em, Las Vegas, and Music

Here’s a quick excerpt
When I was about 25 years old, I made the rather bizarre career move from full time musician, to Blackjack Dealer at The 4 Queens in downtown Las Vegas. Six months later, I was offered a job across the street at the legendary Binion’s Horseshoe Casino.
The Casino Manager, my boss, was Ted Binion. Yes, the same Ted Binion who was later murdered in a plot to steal the 6 Million Dollars worth of silver that he’d buried in the desert.
Good times.
The Horseshoe Casino was the original home to The World Series of Poker, and naturally, I became interested in learning this new game called Texas Hold Em. I quit my job at The Horseshoe about a year later, and went on the road playing Hold Em.
At the time, the Hold Em circuit was a bit different than it is today. Las Vegas, home to the toughest players in the world, [...]

It should come as no surprise, now.
New bankroll – $14.39.
Nothing too amazing to report this time around. No huge losses or wins to ease the pain, to at least make it entertaining. Just a slow drain on the bankroll.

European Poker Tour Berlin was just robbed at gunpoint Live on their stream!!!

More info:
European Poker Tour Berlin has just been robbed by six gunmen with machine guns. It is alleged that they have made off with less than a million Euros from the poker tournament. One of the guards was injured trying to capture one of the robbers. Panic and chaos ensued throughout the tournament as seen in the video below.

“An armed robbery by six men took place today at EPT Berlin. Nobody was seriously injured. We hope to re-start all events at 4pm local time. A police investigation is under way. If you have video footage or photographs that could help the police, please contact the EPT organizers as soon as possible.”

Those are some ballsy robbers…i’m interested in seeing what other kinds of footage come out from this over time.

And a Win!

That’s right, friends. I actually had a winning day. Why? I’m not sure, though I have a theory – all that rush poker was having a positive affect on my normal play. Even though I was losing like crazy, my ability to read a table quickly has been enhanced. This is just a theory, though, and one winning night isn’t enough to prove that.
But still – my new bankroll is $15.05, up from $14.39!
My betting is still all kinds of off, I think. I think I should’ve come out with a bigger bet with the two Qs on the first hand. But then again, I was at a table of fish. Likely a strong bet would’ve just scared them off.
Here was the first winning hand:
Full Tilt No-Limit Hold’em, $0.02 BB (6 handed) – Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com
SB ($1.71)
BB ($1.19)
Hero (UTG) ($0.97)
MP [...]
